Our amazing florist Somedays
I have to pinch myself because planning a wedding can seem so much like
a fairytale. I am so glad I planned our wedding a year out from our
engagement — it has given me more time to enjoy the process, swoon in
the spotlight. Just this past week I had one of those “fairytale
moments” at our florist’s shop.
I am lucky enough to live right down the street from the most
adorable flower shops I’ve ever seen, The Flower Post. The owner, Jill
Chatham, has an amazing eye and definitely “gets” the style I’ve
envisioned for the wedding. Just last week my mom, Billie Jayroe, and
I met with Jill for a “flower demo.” Jill explained it’s best for us
to sit down together and play with options so she can truly get a feel
for what flowers I like. Never did I expect to be so intrigued by the
beauty of flowers and how easily they transform a space and lighten
your mood
As soon as we walked in we saw a gift Jill had made for me hanging
on her door — a wooden sign that reads “Ali & Chase’s Wedding”. It
was love at first site! Jill knew I wanted a vintage garden theme, and
she completely captured that look and feel right off the bat. As we
began our meeting, she worked her magic and created
mock-bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, and more. Every detail was
just perfect. Two hours flew by and before I knew it I had a visual of
all the flowers that were going to be used at our wedding–and they were
perfect!
I can’t wait to see Jill work her magic on our wedding day. I’ll now be able to appreciate every detail she bring to the day. March 8, 2010
Sooooo I am so stoked about this new client/business buddy I have.

Jill
is the owner of the store and she is so great! I love her work, she
uses a big variety of plants, like moss & grass and not just
perfect garden flowers. She had me hook line & sinker when she told
me "I don't buy baby's breath or carnations". I'm allergic to baby's
breath and let's face it, carnations are cheap and a bit tacky...and
all flowers have meaning and theirs traditionally symbolizes death.
Creepy! Her store is very cool too, she has like brick floors and
antiques and it's just very cool, laid back store--it doesn't feel
corporate and it doesn't smell like a funeral home. She also has her
dogs in the back room just hanging out...most of the stores in Vickery
Village do that and I just think that's so fun.
Anyways,
whenever she has a big wedding or multiple weddings, I am coming in
there and taking photos of all the bouquets etc with a white backdrop
for her to use for her site. She will credit me on the site, but I'm
just happy because I LOOOVE photographing flowers. Wildflowers, vase
flowers, live flowers, dead flowers--I don't care, if it grows outside,
I like to photograph it.
Today I photographed her adorable
arrangements & bouquets for a wedding up here; the bouquets were
daffodils and other yellow flowers and the bridal bouquet had queen
anne's lace & stuff. Just beautiful. What I really thought was cool
though was that the table arrangments were in old glass milk bottles!
Tres fun. She said she has a wedding coming up where the bridesmaids
are all wearing cowboy boots and the table arrangements will be in old
teapots. I wish I was the photographer for that wedding! I gotta start
advertising up here! Jill's giving my info out so that'll help with
referrals, I just need to figure out which publications to advertise
in...
